In 1635, in Haarlem, pentru un singur bulb de lalea Semper Augustus s-au platit 10,000 florini. Pentru comparatie, in acea perioada, o tona de unt costa 100 florini. Nebunia speculatiei cu bulbi de lalele cuprinsese bursele din orasele Olandei, in mod similar cu nebunia (ne)cunoscatorilor care investesc in SIF-uri la BVB, sau a celor care cumpara in prezent arta contemporana la preturi ametitoare de la celebre case de licitatie. Doi ani mai tarziu, in 1637, balonul speculativ a plesnit, iar preturile bulbilor de lalele au scazut de zeci de ori. Va avea arta contemporana acelasi destin?
